That is because JTFE wasn't made by nullsoft, and isn't being worked on by the guys coding winamp now. It's made by our resident DR. O, and the guys coding winamp reliased it was so good that they included it in the main winamp installation.

If it annoys you that much, then why not checkmark "skin jtf using the current winamp style" in: Prefs > Jump to File > Display...?
DrO hopes to have a new build of JTFE ready in time for Winamp 5.10 The main reason why there hasn't been a new build for a while is because DrO lost the code after a major system crash on his old comp, so he had to virtually start again from scratch. Though I'm sure he already explained all this somewhere.... |

DJ EGG
Hi DJ Egg,
Why? Well, thats because it has the same problem! Oh, and if you dont know already, if you click on the playlist and select it and hit the J key to jump to file it works fine, but if you click on the main winamp window and hit J it messes up even with skin the JTF. If i click off winamp or minimize it then the playlist isnt selected anymore and the JTF messes up again. ![]() Wolfy |

Definitely one of the worst problems in Winamp ever!
Sheesh... Cry on, nobody cares. Ultimate solution: Prefs > General Purpose > select 'Jump To File Extra' > click 'Uninstall selected plug-in' button |

Well jtfe definitely adds something to winamp, but it's kinda buggy. So often the window won't close after you pressed enter, really annoying. (and yes of course if have unchecked "keep open after hitting enter".)

If you're using the Winamp Modern skin (or some 3rd-party modern skin), then with winamp closed, delete studio.xnf (Winamp root dir) to restore all default modern skin settings. If the problem occurs with a classic skin, then try a clean install :/ |

What do you mean its buggy, hell back in Winamp 2.91 Jump to File worked better than ever and I never ran into any problems with it.
DJ Egg, are you sure you still didnt have the playlist selected when you tryed it? like check the skin jtf, then close the playlist and click at the top of the winamp main window and hit J and see if it works cause mine ghosts every time even when its skinned. Wolfy |

What you don't seem to be understanding is that Jump to File is a built in feature of winamp.exe.
DrO's JTFE plugin just enhances that feature. If you disable or remove gen_jumpex.dll, then the built-in Jump to File feature of Winamp is still there, and functions exactly the same as it did in 2.x Now that you've provided the proper steps to reproduce the problem, yes, I can now reproduce it. Basically, it only occurs (for me) when the playlist window is closed, not when it's open, heh. He probably already knows, but I'll bring it to DrO's attention anyway. [edit] hmm, weird, now i can't reproduce it again [/edit] |

from what i've seen of things DrO seems to get things sorted out in the end (may be a little slowly from some of the threads i've read but he gets there). i contacted him a few days ago about another issue with the jtfe plugin and he said he'd already got my issue fixed (which was to do with loading playlists into the queue) and the test build he gave me did work well. i don't know if i'm allowed to say but he did say that he's working on getting a new working version of the plugin out soon so maybe he'll get it fixed for then if mr Dj Egg has brought the issue to his attention. i was pleased with the response i got so i've got my trust in him getting other issues fixed in time

this is the only post i'm making here today so any replies will be seen when i log back on in a week or so.
i've been refered to this thread by Egg and i want to clarify things. i'm aware of the bug and i've got to re-add in the fix i made for it before the code loss happened (which was a simple fix iirc). a testable working build of the fix will be out by the end of the month (along with a load of other re-coded aspects that need to be verified and checked that they either still work as per the 0.96ff reference build or have been fixed, like playlist loading into the queue which is buggy). Savages_Wolf: 13 mad smilies is a bit of an overkill don't you think? and if it was that annoying then directly contacting me would have been a bit more useful so i could have explained things. if i was working on the project full time ie a paid nullsoft employee then it would have been fixed and in an earlier 5.0x Winamp install. i do have a life and 2 jobs outside of the forums that need to come first since i have bills, etc to deal with like most other people and coding Winamp plugins for free in whatever freetime i have isn't going to pay them. so sit back, and wait for another week or two and then you can confirm either way if the bug is fixed or not in the new public build which is coming to a download near you soon. that ok? -daz |

Wolfgang, I posted what I did because of Savages_Wolf's attitude. Egg explained in his post that one of the reasons this bug is still there is that DrO lost the code; not a single reference to that in Savages_Wolf's reply. He just kept on ranting.
I think both Egg and DrO have been very generous by actually replying seriously to his complaints. Instead of making a decent post in WA Discussion or just asking in the JTFE thread, he decided to post in the bitch list. That's fine with me, but I won't offer suggestions if the only thing he can do is bitch. Instead I prefer to bitch back

lol,
omg people come on, your makeing it more of a big deal than I am. Lets say winamp was your favorite player and you updated it to a new verson and a feature you use every day no longer worked, wouldnt you be a little upset to? This forum is about venting so give me a break. Dr O, I woulda been happy to contact you if I knew you were the creator of the JTFE but at the time I didnt, I thought it was just another part of winamp made by nullsoft, my bad. Wolf |
