what kind of video file is it?
it could be: 1. its corrupt video. 2. you have installed a codec pack. this means you have maybe conflicting video codecs which can often lead to decreased quality. does it play in WMP? or other video player? google "g spot video", download gspot codec program. run file in gspot...it will tell you what you need, or if the file is bad. goto http://www.free-codecs.com to download needed video/audio codecs. |

It doesn't work in winamp. It works in windows media player. What could be the problem. Also in windows media player I get no sound and mute is off and volume is all the way up.

How could you now ask, "What could be the problem"?
You posted the above reply but you never answered any of billyvnilly's questions and you never indicated if you tried any of his suggestions. You never even answered his first question where he asked what type of video file it is. Do those things first, and then post back if you still have a problem. Run GSpot to find out which audio/video codec(s) is/are needed and then download/install it/them. Don't email or PM me concerning Winamp. Instead, either start a NEW TOPIC or post a REPLY in the appropriate thread in these forums. This will also benefit others who may have a similar question or problem. But before posting, please first Search the forums and read all FAQs and all Sticky threads. ANSWER THESE BEFORE ANYONE ELSE HELPS YOU:
1.are you using the most current build of winamp: 5.05 full? 2.what are your system specs? 3. what type of video is it? mpeg-1, mpeg-2, avi ??? umm, did you download and run g spot ? it should tell you if you are missing any codecs required to play your file. if it says you are missing a certain codec (audio or video) goto http://www.free-codecs.com and download the required codec... My Video's won't play correctly either
I've tried both .wmv's and .mpeg's and neither will play all the way through. What's odd about it is Winamp didn't always do this. When I first installed it it played video's fine. Then one day it's wouldn't play them at all. I had to uninstall and then re-install Winamp (ver. 5.01) to get the video's to play. That worked for a while and then one day it started only playing them partially. I've tried just re-installing 5.01 over the existing installed Winamp w/o uninstalling it and that didn't work. So I upgraded to 5.05 and that didn't work. I d/l GSpot, but I don't understand what it's telling me, not very user friendly. My only logical choice is to try and uninstall re-install again.

i hope attachment makes sense. after you open a video file in gspot it tells you if you are missing a certain codec. once you have opened the file, try and render it by click the "render" button. goto http://www.free-codecs.com to download the codec it says you need.
my codecs are specific to my .avi file. you may not need the same ones shown in attachment. |

Well I think the attachment is very good as a reference and I've just bookmarked it in Firefox as billyvnilly GSpot image reference, for future use when needed.
Well done! |

The file is wmv. It says windows media decoder. Can't you diagnose what's going on from just that.

I have a problem with playing my videos
The problem is that when I go to play it, it skips and doesn't play smoothly. There is sound but the visual doesn't stay consistent. One minute it plays. The next it stops completely playing and there is only sound. Can anyone resolve this? |

is this the same problem as your last video problem? http://forums.winamp.com/showthread....hreadid=199016
1. What type of video is it (avi, wmv, mpeg? 2. You know about gspot already, what does it say, and what happens when you render it? 3. Confirm you are using the most current version of winamp...Winamp 5.07 full 4. Do you know your video card? 5. do you ever remember installing a codec pack? They are bad, and sometimes can lead to buggy video. 6. is the file on your computer (i.e. this isnt being streamed, correct)? |

1. It is a wmv file 2. I'm not sure what g-spot is unless that is the dxdiag.exe you are talking about. 3. I am using the most current version of winamp 4. Don't know my video card 5. I may have installed a codec pack. 6. The file is on my computer. |

Upgrade to latest DirectX Winamp and most multimedia software these days requires DirectX v8 or later. There's a description of and a link to G-Spot in Nunzio's first reply above. G-Spot will help to determine what video and audio codecs are required to play back the video, and whether they are installed or not. You probably also need to install the latest Windows Media Codecs (.wmv is a Windows Media Player video format). Be sure to download the correct package (eg. it depends on what version of Windows Media Player you have installed, ie. v6.x or v7.x or higher, and the correct codecs for Win98). You might also need to upgrade motherboard, audio AND graphics drivers, because your system is OLD. You can find out most of this information via Device Manager (in System Control Panel) or via dxdiag. Re: Winamp settings. So, still got the same problems then?
btw, g-spot will work for wmv GSpot > File > Open Change the "Files of Type" drop-down menu to "All files" Open the WMV and click the Render button at the bottom (MS A/V > 1) |

I'm still haveing video playback issues. 90% of all videos playback choppy. when I say choppy I mean it plays a frame, then redraws the nest one, etc. Each one taking a full second. It's not fluid. The audio is there fine. But what gets me is that there's still the occasional video that plays back just fine. I don't get it.

Why are we reviving semi-old threads? I'll tell you why. Because all of the "fixes" haven't worked. I've tried everything and still bad playback. So please don't get all sanctimonious.

One thing you're missing (and so is Amel)... system specs
Are you using any third-party plugins? Are you using any program that is resource intensive, so as to cause the choppiness? ...and have you tried looking at the threads I linked above? We're not here to help you because we have to, but because we want to, so don't turn us away. Where else would you have to go? *slap* |
