Lost all music on iPod then a BSOD!

Hi

I thought it was an amazing idea to use this plugin since I use Winamp a lot and hate iTunes. However since the start I have encountered numerous problems that are so bad I have to consider either going back to iTunes or selling my iPod for something else.

I started using this plugin with an iPod full of music from iTunes and was impressed by the speed, as iTunes runs like a dead dog on my PC. After a few days I uninstalled iTunes. The next day I started messing about with the playlists, adding a few files directly to the iPod without going through Winamp library. This seemed to work well and I could play the files back fine. However when I came to unplug the iPod and use it, all the files appeared to have gone! The iPod now thinks it has no playable files on it!! When I plug it back into the PC, the plugin now sees no playable files either, although everything is still there and playable through browsing in Windows Explorer.

As I have a back up of my music, I proceeded to do a fresh install, updating my iPod's system software from 2.1 to 2.3 and performing a format using the iPod tool and then a format with the plugin as the device was not visible to winamp until I did this.

I selected a few folders I wanted to add back to the iPod and noticed another bug, dragging and dropping folders directly to the iPod section of the media library doesnt work! I can drag to the main media library and then copy or sync which does appear to work.

The next problem is the most serious. I added just over 3000 files to the library and began a sync operation to the iPod. This worked quickly and flawlessly until about halfway. The process suddenly stopped. There is no indication of it except that the current file copying stays the same and the speed keeps decreasing. I aborted the process and Winamp froze. I tried to close Winamp in task manager and end the process but this did not work. A frozen window remained on the screen. After 2 minutes, the system went into a BSOD. Meanwhile the iPod had taken onboard mp3s, but again none of it was showing up as being playable from the device.

I decided to try again and reformatted and started the sync process. This time it stopped again, roughly half way through but on a different file.

I am not sure what to do! I never had any trouble with iTunes except for it having an annoying interface and being ever so slow. This plugin is amazinly fast and convenient but now I am having terrible reliability problems with both the output to the iPod and the stability of the PC.

If anyone could offer any suggestions as to what may be possible bugs or what could be things I could fix or investigate further I would be extremely grateful.

OS: Windows XP Professional SP2 Fully Patched
Winamp: 5.092
ML_iPod: 1.20
iPod: 3G 40GB System software v 2.3

When you get a BSOD in Windows XP, ALWAYS write down the "stop code". You can look up this stop code online (I just use google), and find out what the cause for the BSOD was.

A BSOD is usually a problem with a driver. In this case I would expect your USB driver or your motherboard chipset driver.

I suspect that your first problem may be the result of the eject problem some people report when using playlists. You can read up on this problem here:
