I have a AMD 3-450 with 192 Megs Ram and a SB 128 sound Card. I am running WindowsME.
When I try and play a mpeg I get small skips in the music. All the other apps I have play the files just fine. The program seems to act as if my comp is too slow. Any body have any ideas? DT |

I got something like that after the comp had been on for a bit. WinME is the problem (for me anyway). I got rid of all the system restore and PC Health stuff cause it was always backing up files and slowing everything down.
Does this happen anytime you play an mp3 in Winamp? Do you hav emany other programs running? Go to the preferences (control + P) and then select plugins > output and select the Nullsoft WaveOut plugin. Press configure and change some of the settings there. e.g. buffer length. Also try the directsound plugin instead of waveOut. although I don't think that'll change much. |

with your system specs you shouldn't having no skips at all. do this:
hit ctrl+p. under plugins>output, select waveout and hit configure. use the following settings: buffer length: 7000ms priority: time critical max blks: 28 max blksize: 56k min blkszie: 4k that should do the trick. |

if all else fails... just use the directsound plugin ... yes, I know waveout is better... but I've noticed WinAmp choppiness on my PIII-500, 256mb RAM, 82gigs, SB Live Platinum .. (only when running plugins.. like Geiss) ... so I switched to DirectSound.... no more problems...
wish they'd put the old WaveOut plugin back on.. |
