I just installed an IBM 8x DVD player as a slave on the secondary controller on my PentiumIII machine; the master is a 24x Memorex CD-ROM drive. The master drive,which uses UDMA, works fine with WinAmp, just as it did before the DVD installation. However, when I put an audio CD in this new IBM DVD player, which uses DMA, I get the following error:

WinAmp - CD Reader - Error
ASPI error:0x4 (SRB completed with error)
Sense key:0x2 (Not Ready) Sense code:0x3A 0x0 (medium not present)

The DVD player works fine with data CD's. I haven't yet installed the software for playing DVD's; thought I'd get an opinion on this error first before overwriting something critical.

It's quite possible that your DVD drive doesn't support digital extraction of audio. Since it looks like you're using the CD-reader plug-in, try not using it and see what happens. You may also want to try disabling DMA for the drive. Could be a DMA conflict. BTW - I used to be with YNC while I lived in Chicagoland a few years ago!!!

Installed DVD, get error trying to play audio CDs: Solved!

I just solved my own problem. Seems that the WinAmp CD Reader plugin keeps the device driver settings for the first device used and applies as the default to a new device following installation of that device. Fortunately, this can easily be changed as follows:
1) Open "Options: Preferences"-->"Plug-ins: Input"-->"CD Reader v1.71 (x86)"; Press "Configure"
2) In the "General" tab, both drives are set to same driver, this is NOT correct. Select "H:" (the new drive letter), press "Configure" button
3) Select "Samsung DVD" (name of newly installed device) from the drop-down list labeled "ASPI device"
4) click "OK", then click "OK" on the "CD Reader Configuration" window
5) Close WinAmp preferences window

Everything works great now!
Thanks for pointing me in the right direction, BlueJay. Your suggestion about diabling the CD Reader Plugin helped me find the solution.
