Winamp and Windows Explorer

Hi there,

I have been living with a problem for almost a year. I have updated my Winamp twice since this problem appeared and it wasn't fixed yet.
The problem comes when I try to open any winamp-compatible media file (MP3, AVI, WMV, etc.) through Windows Explorer (WE). WE doesn't succeed to open Winamp. And even if winamp is already open, WE doesn't succeed to send the media to Winamp Playlist.

Instead, an error message window appear with the following message:

Assertion failed
"Core Admin not present!"
Expression: s
File: C:\projects\studio-488d\common\corehandle.cpp

I use Windows2000 as OS. Can you figure out how to solve my problem?

Thanks,

Looks like you are using Winamp3. Winamp3 is "dead" and no longer supported, try installing Winamp 5. "Assertion failed" errors are not common with Winamp 5. Be sure not to install Winamp 5 in the same folder (directory) as Winamp3.

Also, you might want to read the following...

Are you sure that you have winamp set up as the association for the file extensions that you are trying to work with?

nevermind. . . Do what JM said.

Damn.

I found out what happened

Thanks, I figured out what happened. I had both versions of Winamp installed (5 and 3). And Windows was associating all media files to the Winamp 3 version.

Now everything works out fine.
