If you're computer can run winamp, you can make skins. Here's how:
1) Download the Skinner Atlas skin. This is what is known as a template skin. The purpose if it is for you to paint over the bitmaps in it and add your own graphics. 2) Unzip the skin file into a folder within the winamp skins directory. For most people, this is C:\Program Files\Winamp\Skins. Open Skinner_Atlas.wsz, which is in the skin directory and unzip the contents into the a folder within the skins directory. 3) Before you even touch a graphics editor, you're going to touch a text editor. Read the Readme.txt inside Skinner_Atlas - All of it. 4) In case you don't read it, here is a quick synopsis of how skinning winamp works: The skin is a collection of bitmap, text, and possibly cursor files. By looking at certain areas of each bitmap and placing them in the appropriate place on the winamp interface, the skin is displayed. As a Skinner, your job is to paint over these bitmap images with your own images. While you do this, pay careful attention to the areas where you are painting. You cannot change the location of a component with a classic skin. 5) While working on your skin, remember that you can press F5 while winamp is active to refresh your skin. This can be quite useful during editing. 6) Most of the names of the bitmaps are fairly self descriptive. Once you read the readme.txt in Skinner Atlas, it should all make sense to you. 7) Watch out for the bugs in winamp. There are a few and they can be quite annoying at times. Again, the readme.txt in Skinner Atlas will point these out to you and ways around them. 8) Keep in mind that the genex.bmp in the Skinner Atlas is no longer valid you want to use the one in this thread instead. Also see that thread for the changes to it and why it is different. 9) If you run into any problems, we are here to help you //i think i may need to update this a bit. You need a paint program, a list of which are available here.
http://forums.winamp.com/showthread....hreadid=134424 You then need to read the tutorials that come with the skinners atlas, there isn't a question you can ask in here that isn't already answered in there. |
