I just setup my own private Shoutcast server with webpage integration as an online radio station. The only problem I'm having is that once users access the stream, it stores the I.P. and link to the server in Winamp. Therefore, the users are able to start up the stream without revisting the site, something I'm trying to prevent. Is there something I can do to prevent this information from being stored in Winamp? Thanks in advance.

Maybe you should clarify your question. I have no idea what you're asking.

Ok, sorry if the first post wasn't clear. I have a web site with a link to my server. Once someone goes to my website and clicks the link, it starts the stream and stores the link to my SHOUTcast server in the Winamp playlist. Therefore, the next time someone wants to listen to my radio station (the next day, in two weeks, whenever), they do not have to revisit my web site and click the link; they can just open up Winamp and start the stream by clicking on the link which was stored from their last time they listened to the station. I am trying to prevent people from starting the stream by just opening Winamp and clicking on the stored link. I want the visitors to revisit my web site and click the link located there. Is there something that I can do to prevent the location of my server from being stored in their Winamp playlist? I hope that that was clear. Thanks for the help.

Ah.

I'd be astounded if Winamp could be made to do this, particularly since you're not in control of these Winamps, and your only tool to communicate with them is via a playlist. (Also, even if you could get Winamp to do this, you still have to worry about MusicMatch, Sonique, FreeAmp, etc.)

Unless someone else has a thought, I'd say you're stuck.

It is not possible. The addresses are stored in the winamp.ini file.

i thought about this and although the only reason i can see one wanting to do this is to make money off of banner ads on your site which i think is a pretty messed up, however i decided to tell you a possible method anyway.

i think by now you realized that changing your ip everyday is not feasible but you can easily change your port everyday. if you just kept jumping around on ports then users that stored your stream info would not be able to connect since the port would be wrong.

however i think that such a method in order to make a few cents is pathetic and i urge you (if banner ads are your motivation) to reconsider. i think that in the long run it will actually hurt your station.

if he changed ports he'd lose his listeners. icecast could allow him to keep them though if he planned ahead on his ports.

*psst*
don't advertise those lame penis enlarging ads.

Use the Minibrowser. So when they load your stream it's possible to open up a webpage in the WinAmp Minibrowser.

I love those penis enlarging ads, it worked great... I mean it worked for my friend... ughhh.... nevermind. So seriously, I like the mini browser but have one questions: is there a way to make it take you to a special page from the stream instead of the stream source page?

You set the url that the minibrowser is sent to in the dsp plugin options.

When I first saw this thread, I assumed exactly what Captain Dipshit did. The idea of forcing listeners to go to your website every time they tune in is the exact opposite of what a normal broadcaster would want. It's just plain stupid. If you change your address or port numbers, 99% of your listeners will just assume you're off the air and click on another broadcast.

You can insert commercials into your stream with your website address if you want, or you can put your website address into your stream ID information like some broadcasters do. Then, your listeners can visit your site if they choose to.

It is rarely a good idea to try to force people to do something, especially in a situation like this, where they have thousands of other broadcasts to choose from.
