Control Winamp With Gamepad

Alright, I just read this month's copy of Mobile Entertainment. In it, they featured someone who had hooked a computer system into his Blazer and had a Gravis gamepad controlling Winamp like a remote control. How could I go about doing this? I don't have any immediate plans to put my system in my van, but I would still like to know how to get this to work. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
