sound driver dies when winamp is downloaded

When I download winamp. It shuts down the sound driver for Vinyl AC'97 Codec Combo Driver (WDM). To restart the audio I needed to change the driver to a different driver. Then restart the computer. Uninstall winamp. Then reinstall the driver in Vinyl AC'97 Codec Combo Driver (WDM). How do I download winamp without shutting down the audio?

Winamp isn't likely to be the cause...

What do you mean by "shut down"?

What are your system specs? A HijackThis log would be important.

Do you get any error messages?

Are you trying to use any third-party plugins?

No sound, skippy/choppy/crackly playback, high VM usage, etc.
