does Winamp 5 lite support 24bit playback?

I searched the posts here in the forum and couldn't find a simple answer to this, so hopefully someone can answer this for me..

does Winamp 5 lite support full playback of 24 bit files... 24/48 or even up to 24/96? or do I need to download a plug-in to do so? I have an M-Audio 24/96 soundcard running digitally through a coax cable to a receiver with a built-in DAC. I'm just wondering if these 24 bit files I'm playing through it on Winamp 5 lite are actually playing at 24 bit or are they downsampling to 16 bit?

Thanks for the help

As none of the Winamp Lite input plugins are crippled, when compared to Full, Pro or Bundle versions, the following filetypes are fully supported in the Lite version:

MP3/MP2/AAC/WAV/VOC/AU/AIFF

The following filetypes require the respective inputs in order to be played in Winamp Full/Pro/Bundle:

MOD/MDZ/NST/STM/STZ/S3M/S3Z/IT/ITZ/XM/XMZ/MTM/ULT/669/FAR/AMF/OKT/PTM

MID/MIDI/RMI/KAR/HMP/XMI/MSS/MUS/CMF/GMD/MIDS/HIZ/HMZ

OGG

Refer to the Winamp 5.0x Component List (full list/details of Winamp installation options) for information on which inputs are required to play which filetype. Generally, during the install, filetypes are listed instead of input plugin name. Also, if a filetype is listed alongside one which appears in the Full/Pro/Bundle installer, it is included in that option.

Each input [Preferences > Plug-ins > Input] has respective options which deal with downsampling to other bitrates.

Hope this helps, and if you need additional information, do not hesitate to ask.

huh jmatt?

winamp will play 24 bit files and 96khz sample rates perfectly all versions in multichannel out of the box. Provided that the file type is supported in those bitrates and sample rates aswell.

audigy and live 24bit soundcards will not play 24 bit files though, even though thats what it states on the box.

they downsample to 16/48 i think in hardware, so you have no say in it.

I have a live 24Bit... It will do 24 bit...
Go to...
Start / Programs / Creative / Sound Blaster Live! 24Bit
Click on Device Control

You can Select 96Khz and 24 Bit... Otherwise they will DownSample...

Works fine here...

the emu10k1 and emu10k2 downsamples anyway. it might say 24bit but its not outputting 24 bit. google it up.

live 24bit uses the same dsp as the audigy2(emu10k2) which downsamples to 16/48.

oh and read this.
