gameport conflict
Ok. Now this one has me. I just got this cool gamepad for christmas. I installed the microsoft gameport. After I did this it didn't work. It turns out that there is a resource conflict for the input output range between my gameport and my ESS1788Plug and Play soundcard. The gameport works with the soundcard unistalled and the soundcard works with the gameport unistalled. When they are both installed I try to play winamp I get the MMsystem002 error. I haven't found an answer anywhere. HELP

1. Try moving the soundcard to another available slot ?!?!
Windows should redetect it on reboot. If not: 2. Then goto : System Control Panel -> Device Manager Hi-lite the entry for your soundcard & click "Remove". 3.Now exit & reboot. Hopefully Windows will redetect your card & assign it a new IRQ that doesn't conflict. Hmm, thinking about it, maybe you should try it in this order instead: 2 | Shutdown | 1 | Reboot ps. Make sure the gameport is installed & working first |

I have tried rebooting. The Irq is not the problem. When I go into the soundcard's properties and looked in the resources menu. The first input/output range listed has a red circle with a slash through it. This is the resource that is conflicting with the gameport. Will I have to buy a new soundcard?

Yes, so you've confirmed that you have a conflicting I/O Address.
Simply rebooting won't solve this. Did you try what I suggested above? 1. Make sure gameport is installed & working properly. 2. Goto Device Manager, hi-lite entry for Soundcard & click "Remove" 3. Exit System Control Panel, wait a few minutes, then Reboot. 4. Windows should now redetect your soundcard & will ask you for the drivers. Place your soundcard's CD-ROM/diskette in the drive & let Windows do its thing. If the I/O Conflict is still registering: Repeat steps 1 + 2 3. Exit System Control Panel, wait a few minutes, then Shutdown your computer & unplug it. 4. Open it up & physically move the Plug&Play soundcard to another available PCI slot. You may have to get a qualified technician to do this for you. 5. Now boot up your pc & Windows should redetect your soundcard, etc etc. Hopefully this should solve your problems. If not, then get a technician to enter your BIOS settings to modify the Plug&Play I/O Range settings. Sorry, can't help you with this one! You shouldn't have to buy a new soundcard, though an SBLive or Diamond Multimedia surely wouldn't go amiss ![]() I don't suppose you've tried the online tech support for either M$ Gameport or ESS ? Oh, and by the way, Re: MMSYSTEM002 Error: Check this thread from Tech Support Greatest Hits & follow the links from there. http://forums.winamp.com/showthread.php?threadid=36850 Good luck! |
