Basic Skin Question

Hi,

I am a software developer, not an artist and I need to modify the Winamp Playlist skin for my own app. My initial attempts at this have been awful. All I need to do is change the title and add a different graphic in the left corner of the titlebar.

I am using photoshop 5 but when I put text on the titlebar it looks shit - all squashed up and basically unreadable.

Any help me?
