ok, i just skimmed the thread, so correct me where im wrong.

what the original poster is talking about is an issue with the mimetype that is specified when serving up m3u files from the dnas. This is pretty much where the issue lies.

of course, x-prefixed mimetypes are a grey area, since they are not officially sanctioned.

Anyway, im having trouble getting my head around this because the case you report appears to be in reverse of the logical result.

1) Lets assume player X has support for .pls files, and registers itself as mimetype handler for audio/x-scpls (since its the assumed mimetype for shoutcast servced .pls files).

2) However, player X doesnt have support for m3u files.

3) you supply a link to the m3u on your dnas, it gets served with audio/x-scpls mimetype which makes your browser launch player X.

4) player x is launched and passed an m3u file it has no idea how to handle. process fails.

This is what I expect in the case that you specified.

However you state that pls files are the ones that dont work, which i'd probably say is a player issue, since the dnas is serving up a pls file with an audio/x-scpls mimetype, which while unofficial, is the standard mimetype for a pls file as served by shoutcast.

If anything, about the only "bug" i see is that the dnas should probably serve m3u files with a mimetype of audio/x-mpgurl or whatever the most appropriate mimetype for m3u is.
