Volume control not working Win2000pro

I am not sure if this a bug or my system, but the volume slider doesn't do anything when I play a cd thru winamp, I have to goto the volume control on the taskbar. Works fine while playing a mp-3 file.
Not a big problem but a little annoying, Any sugggestions welcome, thanks
