Reduce memory usage

I have a problem with WinAmp - it is using a lot of memory (100MB+).

It seems like the memory usage is tied to the size of the current playlist in use.
One of my playlist have 30,000+ entries.

How can I make WinAmp use less memory ?
I am using the classic skin.

Seems a little high for a classic skin, even with a large playlist. Make sure you are not running any extra third party plugins that might be, shall we say, poorly coded.

Thanks.

But I already did a clean install and is not running any plug-ins.
Have diabled almost everything.

The memory usage is directly linked to the size of the playlist - I think it is strange, since when I save the playlist to harddisk it only use 3MB, but in memory it use 100MB.

what's stored in the playlist isn't just what Winamp will be using when the entries are loaded in the playlist editor so real use will be more than for the saved playlist. this is because when it is loaded into the playlist editor it has to allocate memory buffers to cope up to the limit of filepaths and title display lengths as well as other data that we don't see. when saved to the playlist only the real data is done which is why you get a noticeable size difference. there was talk behind the scenes of tweaking the code to only create buffers upto the size that's needed for the current data held for the playlist entry but that could bring other issues if it's not 100% correct hence why fixed buffer sizes (which will give slightly higher memory usage per item is easier to work with)

Send a message via Yahoo to midgard83
will setting Winamp to "Read metadata only file(s) are played" increase available memory and allow more files to be loaded in a playlist?

This was fixed in Winamp 5.12

From 5.12 whatsnew.txt

* Improved: Significantly less playlist memory usage
