Hi all. I know this is a message board for people who like Winamp, but personally I wanted to get rid of it after a day or so. I run Windows 98 and I went into My Computer, Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs and uninstalled Winamp. My MAJOR problem is that all the .wav files on my cpu were converted into Winamp media files and uninstalling Winamp did nothing to change them back. Someone please tell me how I can change my sound files back so I can listen to them again. Thanks

WinAMP did no conversion. They are still WAV files. They still can be opened with any WAV player

All you have to do is goto the folder with a .wav file. left click it once to select it. then hold "shift" down while right clicking and choosing "open with" then select choose program then scroll down the list and left click to select the program you want to use to open up .wav files with, which default is windows media player. make sure you have the "always use this program to open these files box" ticked and click ok. it should straight away use the player you selected to open up the .wav file, otherwise restart.

Winamp media file is what winamp likes to call wav, mp3, etc files.
think if it as a nickname where I would rather call Legend "Shaggy" instead. it's still the same Legend, but I (phisherman) am winamp so I call you "Shaggy" instead of Legend. SO Legend and "Shaggy" would be the same things but Winamp would call them different names so look purdy Phisherman |

Far out!
Anyway, simplest & best way to reassociate WAV files (and any others) with Windows Media Player: Open WMP -> View -> Options -> Formats tab. Make your associations from here. This way the correct icons, descriptions & MIME types are properly assigned. btw, what was it that you didn't like about Winamp? You know you should have followed the setup instructions more carefully. You're given the options to "associate with files" & "maintain associations" etc during the setup process, so you should have unchecked these. You could always have gone to: Winamp "Prefs -> FileTypes" to make any associations at a later date. Pah! ps. Hey, wait a mo, this isn't the newbies forum is it?
