Remote DJing
I've got a friend who wants to DJ on my station, but his computer situation is really bad. His internet is slow that he can't play the songs from his computer without the station clipping like mad. So I was wondering if it was possible for the songs to be played from my computer, but have him DJ with his microphone from his computer.

Although not completely impossible it wouldn't be easy. Would do alot better pre-recording the show and sending it over to be played.
You might also want to look into the bitrate he is sending at as if the internet connection isnt capable of sending at that high of a rate but can sustain a lowerbitrate it might be a viable solution also. Go to Google and do a 'upload bandwidth test' and see what upload speed he has. That can help determine what can be supported. Megarock Radio - St. Louis Since 1998! Don't click this link! One problem (other than the technical mix that needs to be done) is the delay -- for instance, the remote DJ would not be able to hear the source in real time to be in synch with it and he would not be able to send his voice stream in time to synch with the audio in any useful way. His outbound bandwidth would still be in play as well, unless he was talking to you through a phone (hint).
That said, most soundcards can actually listen to the analog phone line (via a dialup modem that supports it), and their audio "source" is included in the WinMixer. So concievably you could have your MC on the phone listening to your live source and commenting on it in time to be in synch with the stream -- in this case, their bandwidth and computer is not even in play. On your end, your source PC would have to support the modem audio via the WinMixer and you would have to use soundcard mode, even if you are running a playlist. The Mix is on you. Most of us have modems in our PCs and we have never taken advantage of their power to do things other than dialup an ISP or send a FAX (let alone allow you to make a phone call). Break out the ol' manuals -- you may be surprised at what that cheap $20 33K modem could do 10 years ago. /* v2 HTML5 / Player test pages DigitalMixNYC, DigitalMixNYCbx | DNAS Status: Now Playing js codes (scaststatus_X.php) | PortForward.com | Upload/Download Speed Test | No-IP.com: Free Dynamic DNS | In the YP | dnasDir */ |
