Play a song in the library

I want to play songs in the media library without affecting the playlist in any way. That means I don't want the song to be played nor added in the playlist. I just want to listen to it (in the main window) and possibly drag it to the playlist myself. It worked in previous Winamp versions. How does it work in Winamp5? Or does it work at all in Winamp5?

Nope. For a song to be played it need to be in the play list. As the playlist is a list of songs to be played. If you want to save that praticular playlist, you cann import it into the Playlist section of the Media Library.

With all due respect, please don't give me the kind of logical answer. It's not logical that a song has to be in the playlist to be played. In Winamp3 you could doubleclick a song in the media library and it was played without anything being changed in the playlist. Obviously this doesn't work in Winamp5. It's a pity.

Thank you for the answer though. And if anyone knows a way to make this work out, please tell me!

Winamp3 had a totally different playback engine which allowed for multiple instances so you could do what you're asking about. Winamp 2.x and so 5.x don't have this type of ability in the playback core. It is possible to circumvent Winamp and have another plugin call and handle all of the input plugin handling to allow for any file to be played but when i last attempted doing it the output wasn't working correctly when playing files of the same type back and there were a few other issues due to mutliple input plugins running that made Winamp a bit more crash prone

I guess I have to download Winamp3 again. Or does anyone have a better suggestion?

I too am looking for this feature, having temporarily gone to iTunes and gotten spoiled from it. Now that I've returned to my love Winamp, I miss that! (Really the only feature that I do miss.) Quicktracks is a bit too confusing for me, and I'm lost in trying to get it to simply play a song from the ML without adding to the playlist. Can anyone help me as well?
