Looking for a volume equalizing plugin.

I don't see any plugin-in category so I guess I'll post here. I am looking for a plugin that can analize a song before it plays and balance/level/equalize/normalize it's volume to a desired level so that I don't have to constantly change the volume for a given song. Now I know there there are a million plugins that fit that description BUT HERE'S THE CATCH: they all seem to adjust the volume on the fly while the song is playing!

Who in their right mind would want that? Songs are supposed to have dynamics. I just want a plugin that checks out the song and if the WHOLE song is too quiet or too loud it compensates accordingly. I DON'T want to be listening to a song and have it boosting quiet parts and flattening loud parts - that is just dumb. So isn't there a simple plugin out there like that?

http://www.replaygain.org/ does what you want, I think. I haven't actually used it myself mindyou.

That looks pretty cool, but also kinda complicated, all I could see to dl were .m files. What the heck are those?

I had a bit of a better look at it. I think there mightn't actually be a winamp plug-in at this stage (the image of one alongside winamp running is a proposed plug-in only). I know there's a plug-in for Foobar and maybe other players, but yeah it might not be what you need unfortunately as there's not actually a plug-in you can use.

I really know enough about it except that it does to the volume what you're asking for.
