AIM sucks. Anyone who doesn't use MSN Messenger (or something better - AIM doesn't qualify) isn't worth talking to.

STFU. Every person I know uses AIM, so why would I switch to something else?

I don't know about you, but I think "STFU" is a fairly valid retort to "[something] sucks." It's not as if you gave any kind of reasoning.
But yeah, I'm not going to miss instant messaging you too much either, so no matter.

I didn't expect them to be added to my contact list as I use trillian, but hey, it did. And hey, they aren't decent bots (arsedrop rules), so they are deleted too.

I don't like that there is a way to put people on my buddy list like that.

Can I see that within three weeks something like the myspace worm?

I never use STFU as I like the way it sounds when I say the whole thing as it as meant to be said.

HOWEVER, I've got two of these ordered because I want to represent my alma mater:

My mistake. I meant Adware.
The adds in every message window. The adds inside the contact list. The popup add that comes up when you start MSN messenger.

Sorry. I just dont like my IM client to be bulky and have adds mashed into it

I use Trillian so Messenger and AIM goes with same, but there are several things I like with messenger and one is that you can use another displayname than you mail ID, and along with that or vica versa, you don't need a junkmail account to be able to use it. I use my regular mail adress for both Messenger and my mail... and a lot of other things. The only spammer I have atm is Ebay, but I think I can get rid of it if I want.

And I like Litestep too Skrying

Oh, right. I don't see any of those, actually. But you're right, a non-patched MSN Messenger is horrid in terms of ads and so on.

The ads in MSNM are fairly easily removed though, yeah.

I only use MSN Messenger, Google Talk, Jabber and Skype. Jabber I have very few contacts on, though, I just joined on a whim one time. Google Talk is awesome, and MSN is good and ubquitous.

This is just too sad... bots on IM clients?!

What are they for? chataddicts who can't even get contacts anywhere on the internet?

The only line such a bot should say would be 'go outside and get a life' imo...

The bots are more about ads and crap. I have "smarterchild" on my buddy list, which can be vaguely useful if you type something like "movies" he gives you a list of current movies, etc. I haven't used it lately though.

Hmm... I'm using version 5.5.3598 with DeadAIM installed, and AOL wasn't able to add the bots to my list. So far, they haven't broken this version's compatibility with new versions YET. Though I expect that to change eventually. They won't even let you sign in with some late 4.x/early 5.x versions anymore.

Edit: Speaking of AOL sucking ass, has anyone else been getting a lot of pop-ups on the Winamp forums lately? I just ran Spybot and AdAware and they didn't turn up a damn thing.

Trillian roX. AIM SUX. About the networks, i use YIM b'coz all my friends are on it. AIM networks are fast and hassle free indeed, but trillian is all that one requires for total IM nirvana.

I have had fun messing w/ their bots long before they added the shopping & movie bots (I've messed w/ both the santa & cupid bots for quite some time during the relevent times of the year...good time to mess w/ the cupid bot now tho

anyways---these bots are extremely simple---they look for key words to try to be conversational---"sweet" it interprets as an exclamation of pleasure--b/c someone could say "that's sweet" or, "sweet! I'll want to buy that"---or any number of other things.

It is most amusing to mess w/ bots---to try to get them to respond in most amusing ways---aka ask santa for something naughty & log the convo
