Skipping silence in the middle of tracks?

This is a question about Winamp 2.95. If that's not okay, feel free to ignore/delete/move/whatever this post.

I have some tracks with silence in the middle of them. When I play them back, instead of playing it normally, it seems like Winamp is trying to skip the silence. CPU usage will go to 100% and the timer will jump by intervals of 5 seconds or so, until there is something to play back. I'd like to turn this off. If there was, for instance, a minute of silence in the track, I want it to play a minute of silence.

I've looked around, and all I came across are threads about crossfading and gapless playback. (Although I did find one that directed me to the CD Reader plugin. )

I've tried increasing/decreasing buffers, disabling the "remove silence" option in out_ds, messing with fading settings, all to no effect. In fact, when I select the out_wav plugin, it STILL happens... Which leads me to believe that it's the MP3 decoder doing it, but there are no options for silence removal there.

Soooo, I'm kind of at a loss. I'm hoping someone knows of this problem and can help me out.

The computer in question is a PIII 700 laptop, 512Mb RAM, SigmaTel AC'97 audio, WinXP Pro.

Thanks.

Sorry as you have guessed the outdated, buggy and illegally leaked 2.95 is not supported.

Please update Winamp to version 5.112. Although the download pages say 5.11, the current download is 5.112. WA 5 is the continuation/upgrade of WA 2.

Then let us know if you are still having troubles.

Please do not PM me for tech support. Any request for tech support through PM will be ignored.

Woo! The new version took care of the problem. I hadn't upgraded because I liked 2.xx's ridiculously-fast opening speed. Incindentally, I never knew 2.95 wasn't an offical release. Not that it really matters now, I guess.

Anyway, thanks!
