msconfig GONE!

hey guys,
i was giving tech support to a friend of mine and we needed to access msconfig and i told him to go to start, run msconfig (he has windows 2000) and it said it could not be found.

for giggles i went to start >> run>> msconfig, it said the same thing. He has used msconfig before on his pc

i used it yesterday, any ideas why they are gone on both pcs?

anyone else having problems?

your friend needs to get an antivirus.

msconfig and the Taskmanager are often hijacked on a hijacked computer so that you can't close the malware's processes.

Are you sure you were on 2000? Maybe somebody had copied it onto the compy from another version of Windows.

msconfig is a win9x tool, it was never put in the NT line. If you lost it on 98 then you need to check your computer, either system paths have changed or something removed it. msconfig not being on 2000+ (NT) is completely expected because it was never migrated.

XP has it. So does Windows Server 2003.

Yeah, they brought it back for XP, I downloaded it for my Win2000 machine right from MS. I don’t understand why they didn’t include it. I never tried to use it on a Windows NT machine so I’m not sure if that had it.

There is a Win2k version of msconfig, but it's a seperate download. Generally there's tools to do most things you might want to do anyway, though.

actully i got back from a pc job yesterday with an extra $45 in me pocket, the modem was bad (wasnt getting a dsl dignal) like the rest the ISP was sending out so i switched that out and added ad-aware and then taught her how to use it, added firefox instead of IE and showed her that and installed her printer.

Then i got home and talked to amy for a while and then she had to go and then glen (dude from church im helping) called needed assistance, then i uploaded pictures of myself on my website and went to bed.

i dont know, but its not a business but every other weekend someone needs my help on there pc so i go to there place and do what needs to be done.

anyway, i thought windows 2000 and msconfig because xp had it and 98 had it ya know, guess i was wrong, but it still is missing, i'll mess with it this weekend

That was precisely what I thought.

The search for the ultimate signature continues apace. I have journeyed from the peaks of Nepal to the depths of oceanic trenches. I have crossed deserts, jungles, swamps, savannas, steppes and frozen wastelands. I have consulted with seers, swamis, sages, scholars and savants. The peregrination proceeds purposefully.

This isn't the same scenario of you switching out the video card in your last machine becuase you couldn't be bothered looking for the correct drivers for the one that was originally in it?

I'd love to get a hold of your box of computer parts that "don't work" - I'd probably build the guts of a working machine from them...

no Centurytel (the ISP) has had problems with those modems not getting a DSL signal (phone cord to the modem) because of voltege problems.

i would know because my dad works for them.

Look Tucker, you must have Word, spellcheck your posts before hand. For your own pride.
