ripping my old vinyl collection
I've been using winamp for over a year now and want to "rip" some of my old vinyl collection so that I can burn them to a CD. A friend of mine had Music Match ane was able to do this. Can I do the same with Winamp? D I need to purchase the Pro version to do this?

Winamp Pro unlocks high speed CD burning and MP3 ripping from CD, it does not does not provide any additional function for recording/"ripping" from vinyl collections or other external sources.
Winamp is not really suited for recording/"ripping" from external or analog sources. However in a round about way it is possible. For more info see the following thread... rip from analog source (ie. vinyl)There may be other programs out there that are better suited for burning to CD from vinyl. Anyone else with suggestions? |

I'd also recommend that if you are ripping your vinyl for future-proof storage, do so using a lossless format. The extra space taken will be worth it in the end. Obviously, i'd recommend FLAC for this, since its an open format without any restrictions on its use.
Then when you get to pick and choose what format to convert down to, mp3, aac, wmv, whatever your playback device of choice supports. You'll get less loss of quality this way. |
