Wizards, techies, fellow brethren of the MP3 underworld...
I gots me a problem. I only recently experienced this problem too.... I have about 525 or so MP3's, and they're all on one playlist. When I double click a song, or sound file, 3 times out of 5 winamp will lock up, and ctrl+alt+delete closes it, but it does no good as it is that windows then screws up too. The play button does not change the lock up error. it will either: a)instantly freeze, never to move again, thus inciting a reboot to occur b)flash the counter numbers and then lock up. but I never hear a sound, SO I've concluded that the player locks up before the sound starts, I guess when the actual command is given to play. I am using Nullsoft wave out v. 2.3 (OUT_WAVE.dll) nullsoft diskwriter 1.0 (OUT_DISK.dll) Nullsoft direct sound plugin v2.0 (OUT_DS.dll) nullsoft WMA output plugin v.90 (OUT_WM.dll) for the input plugins I have: nullsoft MPEG audio decoder 2.71d IN_MP3.dll Mjuice secure MP3 decoder x86 Nullsoft Module decoder 2.2.2 x86 (IN_MOD.dll) I have a few others but those are for other things this didn't use to happen...either it's the winamp version or the fact that I have 500+ songs...my guess anyway. I am running a Pentium 2, 233 mHz w/MMX 10GB partition for the MP3's w/64 MB RAM. I might add that winamp never skips and never does anything else nasty when it does work. thanks much... anj |

I don't see any real problems with your machine information. I can only suggest to uninstall and get the newest version available.

paulbearer, does this problem only occur, when you access your Playlist? if you only play one song, is there any problem with that? also, what other applications do you have running at the time this problem occurs? that's an awful lot of mp3s in one playlist, you might want to break them down a little. you may be running out of Ram, or your computer is just dying. try to provide more information, like what is running, when this occurs.

guys,
I have winamp 2.71 installed, and I have uninstalled and reinstalled. The trouble is with ANY song. see, I load the EQ, the player, and the playlist...so I see all of winamp. I can pick any song off of the playlist, and double-click that song...and it freezes. or if I just hit the play button it still odes the same thing. Rnaap, navapw32, explorer, and winampa are what is showed under the ctrl-alt-delete pop-up/TSR list. I usually don't run winamp along with a program, as in I don't surf the web and use winamp at the same time. any settings to look at? any plugins to get? I'll try a smaller play list. thanks much. anj |

Disable RealPlayer Agent, and set Norton Antivirus options not to scan files on 'open'. Might not be a perfect solution, but it'll reduce interference. The Rnaap is probably trying to prevent file association to winamp. Otherwise, I would look for a corrpt Mp3 in your playlist. |

i've had a few lockups too with winamp 2.71. My speakers also sound blown out when i listen to a song, and i can hear lots of static when i use scroll bars in other programs.
This has started since i 'upgraded' to Windows ME.. |

the REAL problem?
Guys,
I started playing a song this afternoon........ it locked up. BUT instead of rebooting, I waited about 5 min, and got this message: Header Bar: Nullsoft Wave Out Plugin-in v 2.3 MMSYSYTEM032 The Specified Format cannot be translated or supported. Use the Capabilities Function to view supported formats. so I click ok, it goes to the next song, and does the same thing. after two locked up songs, it plays the third. all were MP3's, probably of the same bitrate and everything. anyway, if that helps...... tell me whatchall think. anj |

Codec Promlem Maybe?
This might sound like it kinda came out of left-field, but...
Have you just recently upgraded winamp from an older version? The reason I'm asking, is because that particular errour suggests that the Mp3 codec itself may be unable to handle the bitrate of the songs you're trying to play. What I'm thinking, is maybe when you upgraded, you retained the older codec(s) from one of the past versions of winamp (or possibly some other mp3 decoder). If this is the case, I would uninstall winamp completely, then reboot, throw away the winamp program folder, then re-install. That way, I could make sure there were no old files that didn't get replaced by the new installation. I know it does sound unlikely, but I would try it anyhow. Another thought... MMSYTEM32 is a windows core component for integrating media with your output devices (soundcard, in this case). I would also check that Winamp, or (more likely) some other application didn't somehow corrupt your soundcard driver, since this is what MMSYTEM32 hooks to. If your soundcard driver is one of the generic drivers that is available in Windows, then I would get an upgrade from the manufacturer site (if for no other reason than to simply get all of the functionality from the card itself). |

By the way . . .
RNAAPP is the Dial-Up Networking Connection Application. It has nothing to do with RealPlayer! C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\RNAAPP.EXE This should only be running if you are online at the time. It is supposed to close after you close your browser & hang up your connection. However, this should not effect audio capabilities. Check out the links that sawg posted & get the latest drivers for your soundcard. You might also want to try upgrading to Winamp 2.72 Includes many bug fixes! |
