uvox:// address stopped working within the past month!

Where do I begin? I will certainly attempt to refraim from bashing AOL for trying to bring in some additional revenue "streams". There is a NYC Christian radio talk show that I love tuning in to so that I can listen to my favorite program of all times "Learn to be Healthy". The station is WMCA 5.70 AM. Up until around November 20th this was accessible using Winamp ver 5.08 via an AOL Radio link using the following *.m3u address ...
"uvox://uvox1-chi-slot4l.stream.aol.com/stream/7989"
I am no longer able to reference this original saved playlist entry under Winamp to get back to this stream. Instead it flashes something about "HTTP:// ... forbidden" in between attempts to get to it.
Would it be an incorrect assumption to presume that AOL wants me to pay for a fulltime membership and go with their own AOL Radio functions to get to this now?
I know there was recent change allowing no charge access into AOL.com (for shopping over the Holiday's etc.). Any valid suggestions are welcome.
I have tried ...
> Upgrading to the latest WinAmp version (registered as a PRO version).
> Reinstalling the URL from the radio station site ... and clicking high speed stream ...

it is inaccurate to presume anything from errors you recieve in winamp (or any application) beyond what they state. Forbidden doesn't mean "Pay up bitch" it means that the resource is not available to the public for some reason. As far as I am aware purchasing winamp will not change the accessibility of content. I could be wrong but this is a winamp question more then a shoutcast one. So I will move you to the winamp forum to see if there is any advice over there.

Thanks for your consideration / effort here ...
I really feel that this issue boils down to one of the following ...
a) bureaucracy: who can do what with what resources
b) perhaps some server in the path is being reconfigured
I am basing my opinions on a "history" of events. Some time ago, back in August 2005, I encountered a similar problem attempting to 'RIP' this same broadcast direct to *.WAV with a stacker output tool.
This too stopped working - a "questionable" practice from some who abuse the privelidge. It forced me to look into many alternatives for archiving.

It could very well be related to the switch from AOL Radio to XM Radio, where by XM Radio now includes (a select number of?) AOL radio stations. I guess it could be read into as bureaucracy, probably trying to promote the XM brand some more. Either way, my advice is to see if your favourite station can now be found within XM Radio, or alternatively, see if they can be found in the shoutcast listings, or even if they have a stream available on their website.

Either way, as of now, paying for pro will not give you access to more streaming media.

CraigF thanks for your valued input. I have certainly tried everything that you mention already. I am wondering if perhaps WinAmp has the technical resources to give it a quick try. I provided the http URL to "pull the station in".
I wish that KXRM had never made reference to me shelling out for the Pro version of WinAmp. My original text also says "(registered as a PRO version)" - the "ed" on registered really does imply "past tense".

its probable then that aol have ceased streaming that particular stream in favour of the new XM radio streams.

unfortunate i suppose, but as I already said, you may find that the station has a stream available from their own website.

CraigF,
While I think you have nailed this one, my original thought still remains ... Can anyone from your team confirm my dilemma? Right now I am able to access it from AOL's Radio website (but not WinAmp). I suspect AOL will be yanking this priviledge from me very shortly (since I am not paying a monthly membership fee). While it's possible that the WinAmp solution will once again start working at that point, I highly doubt it. I am just hoping to get that WinAmp tech support seal of "it's not user or setup error this time".
As an additional follow-up measure, I have also contacted wmca to see if they are aware that this shoutcast may have been suspended.

no clue. as a volunteer, quite often i get fed as much information as the public.

All I know is that recently a lot of the online media within winamp has been moved about some, due to a combination of licensing deals and the introduction of new content in an attempt to streamline the free offerings supplied by aol. Add to this the fact that there is a continued effort to change the methods and formats of delivery and it has recently been very much a technical support nightmare.

Obviously, us lowly forum volunteers are not privy to the business decisions being made so I cant give you reasons for these alterations, all I can say is that free XM radio is clearly a big win for the consumer, as was the same with music videos and any other free media, especiall in a world where people like to place a high price premium on simple entertainment.

I've checked online myself with regards to your wmca radio station and cannot see anywhere to listen online, if its of any benefit, usually ultravox or aol provided streams are simply a relay of another stream somewhere on the internet. Hopefully the station will be able to tell you an alternative means of tuning in. Good luck.
