question about ripping from cd

does winamp pro take the names, genre, etc of the songs from the cd from the cddb database or from the cd itself.

if its from the cddb database is there any other program that allows to extract song information without going on the internet? im from out of the city and going on the internet is kind of hard with a 56k modem, so really my real question is can i be able to extract songs from the cd using winamp pro with all the song information on it without going on the internet so that my songs on my ipod will not say like unknown "artist - track 1
"?

No, alas, Winamp doesn't currently support CD-Text, but it has been on the Wishlist since the dawn of time, and will hopefully be implemented one day.

The only workaround, if not using cddb, is to manually enter the info yourself (artist, album, titles) via: Media Library > Devices > CD Drive > right click in tracks pane > Edit CD Info.
