My next new car/orgasm on wheels purchase

Quote:
Check out this blast from the past. Dodge is not blind to the success of Ford’s retro-mod Mustang, and is rolling this Challenger Concept out for the press and public at this January’s 2006 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. Flush with confidence after the recent successes of the Chrysler 300, Dodge Magnum, and Dodge Charger, DaimlerChrysler is ready to tackle America’s favorite pony-car, the Mustang, in a new 21st century muscle-car war.

Quote:
Styling cues are lifted straight off the original 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T, with round quad headlamps, circular fog lights mounted beneath a minimalist bumper where the classic had turn signals, amber side marker lights placed just beneath a crease in the fender that stretches to the rear of the car and mimics the first Challenger, and twin hood scoops separated by a matte-black racing stripe. Even the greenhouse and mirrors resemble the original – all that’s missing are chrome hood clips and a wire mesh grille.

Those massive six-spoke alloy wheels, however, belie the modern mechanicals underneath the bodywork. Chrysler’s Street and Racing Technology (SRT) team has breathed on this concept, which has the same 6.1-liter Hemi V8 under the hood as found in hot-rodded versions of the Chrysler 300, Dodge Charger, Dodge Magnum, and Jeep Grand Cherokee. A six-speed transmission puts the power to the rear wheels through a piston-grip shifter that recalls the original Challenger, and the driver sits on a ribbed black upholstery – though in this concept it’s leather instead of yesteryear’s vinyl.

Without a doubt!
I owned a 70 Challenger and it was the ultimate in all the musclecars I've owned/driven.

The Challenger was a bad-ass pony car...Dodge should really get on the game and cash in with a retro cool-looking car like this...

All Chevy needs to do build a retro version of their own pony car, the Camaro, and you'll have the Big 3 make the streets feel like it's the fucking 1960s all over again...

Chevy is about to drop the ball with the (ughhhhhly) Chevelle.
I'm disgusted by my favorite manufacturer sometimes.

Muscle cars make me cream my pants, but don't all the V8's put out anymore seem like a way for us to continue buying gas?
Hum. the SUV market is falling, we need to appease our middleeasten stock holders somehow...

No...That's the Northstar V8...

The LS-series V8s run straight-up as small-block V8s with upwards of 400hp, but with 20-25mph on average...

I have richer friends. One of them got one of these for Christmas.

http://motortrend.com/roadtests/sedan/112_0306_f_ctsv/

But although this Cad is a mean machine (0-60 in well under 5 seconds) and a 400 hp V8, chevy isn't going to make many points with the styling.

What strikes me is 0-60 in 5 seconds, and it hardly makes a sound. This isn't like driving anything I've ever seen before. A completely civilized rocket.

Now if it just wasn't dorky lookin.

I really like the styling of the CTS, especially the CTS-v. I like edgy. I've never really been a fan of swoopy droopy styling, save for some certain vehicles that actually look good with nothing but curved body lines. Angular is where it's at. Leave the curvy crap for the ergonomics.

Caddy's designs are too chisled for my personal taste... :\

The 2007 Nissan Skyline also has an interesting feature that I can't wait to see; extremely fast spooling turbos. Each turbo has an electric motor attatched to it. Can't wait to see the rebirth of another legend.

What I'd like to have is one of those Subaru WRX sportwagons. Unlimited power and a place to put the dog.

http://www.cars101.com/subaru/impreza/wrxsti2006.html

230 hp which is beefable for at least another 70-80 hp (lots of hot rod parts available).

Nice!

When I lived in Ft. Lauderdale 20 years ago, a friend of mine down there had a (1970?) Challenger, and it was a bad son-of-a-bitch. Supercharged Hemi, all sorts of other performance mods, line locks, etc. That was one of the few cars that ever scared me to be in. He'd activate the line locks, light up the rear tires until the car was surrounded by tire smoke, then kill the locks and we'd frikkin launch. It was insane power. And loud as hell. Damn, I miss it.

The only car I can remember that scared me more than that one was a 1000+ HP Toyota Supra, circa early-1990s. If you forgot what you were doing with the throttle for even a second, you'd die.

I'm a psychosomatic sister running around without a leash.

yup, I am a mustang fan myself, just got a 89 convertible GT and once I finish the restore I am going to start saving up for a brand new Mustang.

After the mustang I like the challenger, who knows the camaro production model may look better by the time it is out but it is so far away, and still up in the air.

The Mustang is nice, the Challenger is nice, but the Camaro doesn't quite click with me...

I love the rest of the body, especially those giant rear-fender flairs, but the front end needs reworking...Too big of an angle break-off just doesn't seem to work... :/

That's not a good photo angle...I'm not good with descriptions...Here's what I'm referring too...

That nose is a bit pointy for a Camaro...Maybe it's just me, but that front end needs a little reworking...Flatten it out, and it would look nicer, IMO...

It's not as pointy as the 4th generation Comaros. I think the new concept is more faithful to the original angle, actually.
