Main Window Not Updating

This just started happening with the latest (5.12) version of Winamp (I believe). I've reinstalled Windows twice (not because of this problem), one time doing a complete new install of Winamp without any modifications. The last format, I copied over my music database (as I didn't feel like setting it all back up). Anyway, when I go and listen to something on the PL, sometimes it'll play and update the main window fine (tell how many seconds has passed in the song, etc). However, sometimes it'll simply stop all together. It won't update when I move to other songs, nor will I be able to move the slider to another section of the particular song (it DOES play the song, however, and I CAN change songs on the PL).

After this has gone on for a while I notice that when I open up the ML, for example, I won't be able to close it (if I click the "X"). When I close Winamp completely and reopen it, it works perfectly fine. And I'm not using the WA agent, if that accounts for anything.

Also, I'm not sure if this is related at all, but older versions of Winamp would close down correctly every time (thus remembering my last song, and playlist). However, lately if I shutdown Windows with Winamp open it'll lose my last song (and sometimes even the updated playlist). It's very annoying when I have to search for the songs that I had on my list.

For what it's worth ... I'm using an ASUS P4S800 mobo (5.1 sound through that mother board), Windows XP Pro, 768MB ram, P4 2.53GHz, 80GB hard drive. Everything's just normal ... nothing that I've not been running in other Winamp versions. It appears to be a bug, but maybe it's something known, with a known fix. If anyone knows what the problem is, please let me know.

If anyone wants to review my Winamp config, this may lead to a fix? I do change some things after I install (like when I double click on media files, it appended to the list; amoung a few other minor changes).

I've attacked my config (I guess this is it?).

There's no [Nullsoft MPEG Decoder] section in your winamp.ini file, which means that Nullsoft in_mp3 is either not present or is being over-ridden by some 3rd-party mp3 input plugin. Make sure there's no 3rd-party mp3 plugin present, like in_mad, in_mpg123, or the evil/crud in_mp3pro

http://forums.winamp.com/showthread....d=161361#specs
If the problem persists, include a HijackThis log and My_Plugin_List.txt attached to your next reply here.

You may also need to uncheck "allow hardware acceleration" in the DirectSound Output (out_ds.dll) config (Prefs > Plugins > Output), just incase your onboard sound chip/drivers don't fully support it (most modern proper pci soundcards do, but not all onboard chips do). Though also make sure that you've got the latest sound drivers installed from the pc/motherboard manufacturer's site, and also that you've upgraded DirectX to the latest 9.0c (default with WinXP is 8.1). Note, we may also ask to see a DirectX Diagnostic (dxdiag) log...

The only plugin I've added is Toaster.

in_mp3 is there, I just hadn't configured or touched it.

I don't want to bother with the output because that causes the 5.1 not to work, which is one of the reasons I like Winamp. Note that this problem only arised the last update. I've thought about downgrading, but I'd like to keep up to date, if possible.

And a My_Plugin_List.txt log? (Just to satisfy my curiosity)
If there's no other 3rd-party plugins, then I guess it must be Toaster causing the problem, heh.

Yeah, you should be ok to leave out_ds config as it is (dxdiag log is fine).
HJT log looks ok too (except for QuickTime and Real Players, but that's a different story) ;-)

Both Leo's Lyrics and Toaster are 3rd-party plugins and are not supported here.
If the problem is caused by a 3rd-party plugin, all we can do here is to tell you to
1) uninstall/delete said plugin or 2) report the problem to the 3rd-party plugin author.

I forgot to mention that I didn't know where the "My_Plugin_List.txt" was.

I just downloaded Toaster yesterday (or the day before) ... this problem has been happening for about 3 weeks or so now, so the plugin wouldn't be causing it.

Hmm... strange.
All I can suggest is a clean install

ps. note, the instructions for creating/locating my_plugin_list.txt can be found via the required info link I posted earlier.

playlist clearing:: i've got the plugins source code in front of me and i can't see how it'd clear the playlist since there's nothing in there to do that. did it happen when you clicked on the menu option to generate the text file or at some other stage

Hmm, so it still happens without gen_tips.dll (I remember having problems with that under 5.12 and had to delete it). Doubt if it's Transcoder or ml_ipod to blame though.

Other than that, alas, I'm pretty much stumped, heh.

One For Nunz plugin cleared your playlist? I don't see how that's possible (I certainly can't reproduce it anyway, heh).

That's what happens sometimes when I shut down. It's like Winamp shuts down prematurely for some reason. It wipes the PL. Drives me crazy ... lol.

Oh, I should add, that was only when I installed the plugin.

I've deleted the tips plug. Funny thing is, the tips never worked until I installed Toaster. I guess it enabled it? I thought it was something Toaster did. lol

You mean you shutdown the pc without closing Winamp first?
If that's the case, then it's probably best to uncheck "look for new channels on exit" under Prefs > Media Library > Online Media tab > Modify Prefs button.

Other than that, I'm still pretty much stumped. Sorry, heh.

Alright, hopefully that'll fix it. Has that recently been there?

I've deleted the tips plug. Funny thing is, the tips never worked until I installed Toaster. I guess it enabled it? I thought it was something Toaster did.

Thanks for helping. I'll see if it occurs anymore. If so, I'll see if downgrading will fix it (and/or upgrading by that time :P).

Congrats on the tech support, been helpful enough.

I just thought I'd post a screenshot.

Notice the slider isn't there. The song title is also wrong. The time info is right though, it's updating and all.
