Speaker Balance Problems

with the balance control in the center position, there is quite severe distortion and loss of volume.
Sound is ok at either extreme (l-r)
I've fresh installed WinAmp 5 but getting the same problem
Anyone have an idea about this?

I just had this very same problem. After a search through these forums, I found a number of other people reporting the exact same symptoms. I went through all sorts of troubleshooting steps trying to find the crux of the problem and searched high and low for answers relating to software and driver issues.

HOWEVER, what behaved and sounded exactly like a software problem turned out to be a bad hardware connection. Try what I did and pull your plug out of the line out socket on the back of your computer, then plug it back in firmly. That was all it took to fix this deceptive sound issue for me, and hopefully it will do the same for others.

It's worth a try, even if the problem seemed to coincide with a recent software upgrade or install. As a co-worker of mine used to say, "It's the Dick & Jane stuff that'll get you every time."
