File not found (??!?)

I have a very interesting dilemma with WinAmp that I can't seem to find a solution for. I combed through the forums a bit but I didn't really find anyone who is having quite the same issues as I.

So, here's what's happening:

When I load WinAmp, I like to load all of the MP3's in my 'My Music' directory to play on shuffle mode. For the first several months, this has worked flawlessly, but within the last month or so I've been getting 'File not found' errors for the MP3's I have selected, even though they are clearly there.

I click the "open file(s)" and select everything in my folder, then click "OK." It gives me this message:

The Zombies
File not found.
Please verify that the correct filename was given.

I'm wondering if the software is automatically shortening my filenames when I load files, because I don't have an MP3 just called "The Zombies". I have several songs by this band formatted like this: The Zombies - Song Title.mp3
But I have no idea which file it might actually be referring to. If I strip all the Zombies songs from my playlist, it will complain about another file not being found (again, with an incorrectly shortened filename), and this will go on and on for about 50 bands/songs. Eventually, after I deselect all the problematic files from the "Open file(s)" menu, it will open and play the songs I selected, minus the 50 or so that it can't read for some reason.

But why can't I load ALL the songs like it used to let me, and why is it giving me these bizarre error messages? I had read that AVG might have something to do with this, but I shut it down and it was still giving me these errors.

Any suggestions?

Did you install any 3rd-party plugins?
Are you using the latest version of Winamp? (i.e. 5.12)

Please provide full system specs.

There was someone with a similar issue a while back, but a solution was never found...

Including siebe83’s questions, is the 'My Music' directory on a network drive, a shared folder or otherwise on a limited/multi-user account/profile?

Please do not PM me for tech support. Any request for tech support through PM will be ignored.

Additionally . . . are there any unicode characters in the filename maybe?

What do you see when you right click the entry in the playlist and select "Playlist Entry". Do you see any question marks (?) in the path/filename?
