No disk annoying message (playing files from CD)
Please try this:
Use the "open folder" or "add directory" button in winamp playlist and open a CDROM drive with a CD with mp3's. Ok, so far so good, then remove your CD from de CD drive and try to play a file... If your playlist is set to play continuously (repeat is on) you have problems... The player is showing the message "no disk..." till you kill the app from task manager. The same problem occurs when you close the player with a folder that was opened from a CD, and try to open winamp when the CD is not in the CDRom drive. In that case, the message is displayed only 2-3 times The problem occurs even if you clear the playlist befor you close the player!!! Any sugestions?!! Or this is a real BUG!!?? (I think it is...) |

I've forgot...
I use the last version of Winamp 5.13, have Windows 2000 Pro SP4, 256 RAM, Teac CDRom Drive and if somebody needs more details please let me know. In my opinion, that is not a problem neither on which system is running the player nor the system configuration, nor the version of player... I've had this problem with older versions of player too, but I thoght that in the new versions this bug will be fix...
That's it |

if the playlist entry is not valid then throwing up an error message and advancing to the next track is correct behaviour. the fact it keeps looping through the playlist entries with repeat on is expected behaviour as well from how i know the repeat action is meant to work. simple option would be to turn the repeat option off. doing the same action with any other types of files in the playlist with all invalid entries will loop through

u're right! But what happend when the playlist entry is invalid but it's location is on HDD?!! No problem, the player goes to the next entry without an error message, right?!! So, why when the files are on a CD we got the "no disk" message?!! It's annoying to get the message when you have an empty playlist or when you ejected your CD...
If the player will have the same behaviour either the files are locate on HDD or CDRom drive, no message, I think it's nice... |

it's because disk errors on CD drives are handled differently from hard drive ones. there is a way around it by setting an OS api to disable critcal system errors (as a CD drive read issue can cause) i believe. also i'm sure different versions of windows handle that issue slightly differently as well. that's what i think is the case, i could be wrong though..

Yes, u're right DrO about the OS API and the handling of critical errors, but that's it I want to say: the code can and must be changed to handle the same way the errors, either the error comes from HDD or CD Drive. I think this is posible and is not so difficult.
I can not see where the problem comes from when you play a list or a file from CD, then empty the playlist, then close the winamp, and the next time you open winamp you get the message "no disk" ?!!!!!?!!! I do not try to PLAY a file from CD that was removed, I only try to open winamp... I can't get it!! |

However, I don't think there's much that can be done about the other issue, where you play files from a CD, remove the CD from the drive, and then still try to play the files in the playlist... ie. I don't think we can prevent Windows' "No Disc in Drive" error from popping up under such user-error conditions, heh. |

I'm glad to hear that the problem with the empty playlist is fixed and I can't wait for winamp 5.2...
![]() If the other problem it can't be fixed (I believe it can... my opinion) well..., all the users take care to keep in mind that: If you're not sure that you still have a CD in the drive, don't try to play files in winamp! mostly if you have a mixed playlist (from CD and HDD)... I keep believing that the team will fix that problem too. Have faith, people! They are the best |
