Need help - about MP3

Hi -- first time here -- and as you can see from my signature, I'm an Old Guy so have a little pity and mercy - Thanks.

My question: Planning on getting an MP3 player -- want to take my CDs, upload to my computer, then download to the MP3 player. (some of the CDs are music some business training CDs -- don't know if it makes any difference)So-- does everything have to be converted into MP3 format in order to play it on an MP3 device? Can the CDs be loaded directly into the MP3 device?

All sound files should be ripped from the CD (format depends on the specific MP3 player you get, since the can support different formats sometimes) and the transferred from your computer to the MP3 player.

Some MP3 players also come with software that will automatically rip from CD and place it directly on your MP3 player, but not all of them. When you're looking for one, make sure to see what software it comes with so that you know what you'll be doing manually and what will automatically be done for you.

I suggest looking at some review sites so that you can see how other people fared with the hardware/software. Spending a few hours on research means knowing exactly what functions you want and which you don't.
