At what bitrate are you encoding AAC+ at? I've had problems going below 16kbps (only for testing purposes, though, 16kbps is awful). Also, I've had problems with going below 32khz when using Parametric Stereo, but since you're using AAC+ v1 you shouldn't be having this problem.
