media library killed my mp3s.
i'm not angry or hold winamp responsible or anything and i will continue to use it, as i have from way back in the day when i had like a 386 that could barely play mp3s....
i tried to load my entire mp3 root folder into the media library, i was curious to see how much music i had (moreso than dir/s *.mp3 would tell me) 17,600 mp3s, 130 gigs. if you have anywhere near this amount of music, don't do this. it got to 45% and crashed. i tried to reboot my computer, and it wouldn't even load windows anymore, i had to reinstall xp. after booting back into windows, i could browse the mp3 hard drive (its actually a 150 gig partition of a 200 gig hard drive, with the other 50gb being my C: ... so i know the hard drive isn't physically damaged). upon trying to "browse" the folders, i got a "damaged unrepairable" error.. i tried about 3 or 4 recovery programs, the only program that i could use on the hard drive that worked, was format.com .. heh. sucks, its a 7 year old collection of mp3s. oh well, i needed to do some pruning anyways. just to let you guys know... big imports to ML = bad idea. ps i will continue to use/support winamp. nathan |

That sucks dude. :P This is why I backup everything I wanna make sure doesn't get lost in a harddrive crash. That includes my mp3 collection, though I don't have near the amount of mp3's you had.
