Not sure if this is the right place for this post, but i heard about this shoutCast thing the other day and i thought id give it a try, but i have no idea what to do.
Though im not short on how to use a computer so if anyone can direct me or reply to me a step by step guide on how to BROADCAST my music, would be great thanks

Actual , download the shoutcast tools and dj tools and your are that close to getting your music on the internet.

The biggest problem lately is people that do not kow how there computers are connected to the internet, or do not have access to the router to forward the correct ports to their computer.

Without port forwarding those of you behind a router or internet sharing device are stuck in the water.

Are you looking at windows or *nix (UNIX/linux) based server or encoders? I use both winders and *nix boxes, and external mixers for a radio show I am involved in. So its quite flexible what you can do if you have all the toys err tools in place and working.

Well that depends

My shoutcast server has a max of 32 users only because I have more than one server for web and other tools. You can use 100s of bandwidth calculator to determin how many users you can support at one, or limit it yourself so you don't hog the network.

I also run a stream for my home at 224kbps and it doesnt seem to give me greif for the other PC's on the network, but it would if that stream was on the internet as the upstream speed would limit me to 4 users before my bandwidth was sucked up.

ya it really depends. I run mine over a network, but I'm not expecting to have more than 20 users at best. you could encode it at the lowest settings, but that will make the music sound bad. Although that setting is okay for talk.

Yep, the inevitable has happened...
Its not working, i have downloaded the Shoutcast DNS server and followed the instructions on the http://forums.winamp.com/showthread.php?threadid=35635 page.

However when i come to setting up the DSP bit, i work through it but when i press connect it says connecting for a little while then says Not connected.

Heres a little more information on my set up
Im running this through a router, however i have set my computer i am running this of in the DMZ of the router (not on the routers firewall) and disabled norton,

i read in the post earlier on about port forwarding, please could you tell me which ports to forward, would it be the default 8000? also would this have anything to do with not connecting at this moment in time?

ya, I had to port forward. Open your router settings and you should see forward, or if you dont' see that, advanced. Select port forwarding and open a port to your computer. Then in your configuration file, set the port to the port you opended. Then change it to that port in your dsp.

right, ive left all the ports as the default 8000, ive forwared ports 7999 to 8001 on my router, but yet im still getting the not connected error.
please help :'(

Just had an idea, if you may, could you upload the shoutcast DNAS config file to my FTP please, as that could be causing the problem,
my ftp address is

(please note does not work very well with mozilla firefox)
Just put it anywhere, ill find it.

our config files are going to be the same as yours. Are you perhaps running a software firewall?

all of need to do is find something about sharing and security in your router. Enter your LAN IP for the address (it will be 192.168.x.x probably, or maybe 10.1.x.x). In the ports box, add ports 8000 and 8001 (assuming you are using the default).

What kind of a router are you using?
