wav files not playing in 5.2

Prior to doing a clean install of Winamp 5.2 I was able to play WAV files with version 5.13. Now when I select a Wav file it will show on the playlist but will not play. Clicking on the play button does not start the song. What's going on....?

P.S. I do have Wav files selected as an Associated File type.

Maybe you are using MP3 files in a wav container. If so, this is a known bug.

Can't supply an example. This forum won't accept Wav files attached to posts.

You'd need to zip it up first, but the file attachment limit is only 100kb, so it'll probably need to be a very short sample file. Other than that, we were more thinking of a link to eg. a site where you can download one of these WAVs, or maybe you could upload one to some webspace somewhere and just post a link to it here.

Basically, we also need to know what the format of the WAV is, eg.
we already know that the new in_Wave can't play riff-wav's with embedded mp3, or wav's encoded with dsp truespeech codec... so maybe yours are one of those, or maybe they're another format that libsndfile can't handle?

Ok...here's an example. Like I mentioned before these wav files are old (2000) and I'm sure they're not the new in_Wave type file. The Wav file type on this link would play in Winamp 5.13. So either something has been deleted or changed since that version.

Yup, as we suspected, they're mp3 files with riff-wav headers,
ie. it's a known bug with the new in_wave.dll v3.0

(well, to be more precise, it's an unimplemented feature of the new in_wave, not a bug).

quote

-in_wave v3.0 doesn't support riff-wav's (ie. mp3 with wav header) or any codecs not supported by libsndfile library (eg. dsp truespeech or aud) | old in_wave from 5.13

3 options:

1. replace new in_wave.dll with the old one from the link above, or
2. rename the files from .wav to .mp3 and let in_mp3 decode them instead, or
3. de-select wav from in_wave config and add WAV to in_dshow config extension list.

Ok....after reading your explaination it all makes sense. It seems whoever made these files were using old standards. Using your option #2 worked just fine with WAV files I was trying to play. Just need to go thru all similar files and make the same change.
Thanks for the help..
