Winamp Upgrade .exe Installation Failure
System Specs:
-Toshiba MK3018GAS -2.20GHz CPU, 1.23 GB RAM -Avance AC97 Audio (I think this is correct. It's whatever came with the laptop) -Intel(R) 82852/82855 GM/GME Graphics Controller -Windows XP Service Pack 2 -Direct X 9 (possibly b or c, not sure when the most recent install was) -Winamp version (eg. 5.2): N/A -Attempting to install Full Winamp version. I'm attempting to install the new updated Winamp version onto my computer. However, whenever i do i get an error that says: "Error opening file for writing: C:\Program Files\Winamp\winamp.exe" I've tried all three of the options it gives me (Abort, Retry, and Ignore) and nothing really works. I can't even use my old version of winamp anymore either which worked perfectly fine. In fact, i was very happy with my older version of winamp. (I believe it was 5.2. It was current before the most recent update). Does anyone know what's going on? I'm relatively computer savvy, but i don't know enough to know why this download isn't letting me install the .exe file. |

Could it be that the Winamp process is still running? If the process is running you cannot install the new version on top of it...
(press Ctrl+Alt+Del > Task Manager) Are you on a limited user account, maybe? Do you have full write access to the Winamp folder? |

I tried both closing the Winamp process but that didn't change anything. My account is the administrator account and I don't put any restrictions on my computer.
Maybe this additional piece of information could help: I've tried uninstalling Winamp completely. However, I can't delete the old 5.0.1.0 version because it says "The process may still be in use". However, as before, I've made sure that the process is stopped. Is there something that Winamp automatically runs that would make it so I couldn't even uninstall the original file? |

Have you tried rebooting, and deleting winamp.exe immediately afterwards? (you never know, it may work...)
If not, I'm not sure what's going on there... A HijackThis log may be useful. |
