New user looking for help with streaming audio
I am a huge (new) fan of WinAmp. I was thinking about purchasing a registered copy; however, I have been experiencing a problem that recently has dampened my enthusiasm.
I hope you’ll forgive me if I have missed something in the help forums and support pages. On three separate occasions, I have searched here for an answer, and although I have seen much information on the topic, my problem persists: I am unable to play streaming audio in WinAmp from the sources at bostonpete.com even with version 5.2 and Playlist Loader 0.9.9.8f installed. Example: http://www.bostonpete.com/wma/show002.asx will not play. WinAmp gives the message [error synching to mpeg] If I download the ASX file and pull out the mms://bostonpete.us/station02 then I can get WinAmp to play the currently streaming item. When the song ends, WinAmp stops. If I set the toggle for repeating, then it will continue to play each item but it goes through the connection and buffering process each time, so I get 5-10 seconds of no sound and miss the beginning of every song. Can this be resolved in WinAmp, or has Boston Pete found a way to force me to use Windows Media Player? BP has a couple of channels that I really like, so I’m not likely to stop tuning in to them. I’d just prefer to completely migrate to WinAmp. Any assistance that you can provide will be greatly appreciated! |

I'm not really sure that Winamp can handle streaming asx... I'd find a different radio station if I were you :P...

The Playlist Loader plugin adds .asx support. Download & install to your Winamp directory & you're set.

So many people looking for help in forums like this are abused when they post without properly reading a manual or searching for answers in previous posts. That's why I tried to be sure I didn't make that mistake. Perhaps bemymonkey and Early Devil should read my original post more closely...

No offense taken, beymymonkey, I didn't mean that I felt abused. I meant that people who don't pay attention to posts usually get abused and I anticipated a response similar to yours when I wrote my first post. I sincerely do appreciate all help...and I was attempting to make it clear that in _my_ case, the solution would not be simply to listen to a different radio station. I also dislike WMP, but if shakey_snake is right about "incorrect headers" then I am stuck with WMP if I want to listen to this particular content (and as I stated before, I do). Quote:
Meanwhile, if there are any folks who can shed some additional light on the technical side of why this doesn't work in WinAmp, I'd appreciate it. WinAmp is a pretty good application, so it would be nice to stick with just one audio program. |
