Tags and .Ape Files

Is there any way to get winamp to recognize genre, artist, tracknumber, and album tag info on my .Ape files? I have tried everything I can think of but no luck.

The only way I have found is to add the information to the file once it is in the media library. So the information is in the library DB but it is not read from the file. This is unsatisfactory for a number of reasons. Please, anybody. Is there a way?

If I add ApeV2 tags with the monkeys audio program then the information is there but winamp doesn't see it. If I use ID3 (I have tried all kinds...ascii, unicode, V1, V2, etc) then winamp doesn't see it. Any ideas?
