Why Did My Music File Titles Change?

I just upgraded to the latest version of Winamp and now most of the songs, which were so carefully arranged and titled in my music documents file, have been shifted to individual folders. with randomly selected band titles. There seems to be no rhyme or reason to their new configuration except that they may have been reverted to the original mis-spelled messes they were when I downloaded them. All I want are my tidy little icons and each song displayed the way I originally had them set up. As is, I can't find anything. Oddly, not all of the files have done this. My most recent downloads are displayed as I had them. I am REALLY a computer idiot, so if you can help me, please try to keep it in the same vein as "See Dick Run." Thanks in advance for reading this and for any help you may be able to give me.

There's no native feature in Winamp which physically moves/renames files on your hard drive. That sounds more like a thing Windows Media Player 9/10 or iTunes would do. I've no idea about (sh)iTunes, but in WMP it's:

WMP > Tools > Options
Library tab: Uncheck everything (rename music files, rearrange music, etc)
Privacy tab: Uncheck "update music files..."

Afaik, WMP does all this in the background, as soon as you access any media files.

Alas, I have no idea how you can easily undo the damage done by whatever program was responsible (whether WMP, iTunes, or other), but I can guarantee you that Winamp was not to blame.

You are absolutely right. Winamp had NOTHING to do with this phenomenon. I believe it to be iTunes as I can get that program to replicate the problem with my newer files. Christ, the ONLY reason I downloaded iTunes to begin with was that my Soundbridge seemed to be much happier with it. Again, if ANYONE has experienced this and knows an easy fix, I will personally ship a case of Guinness to them!
