error code: 88780078

i get this when i open a soundfile on windows 2000 server in a terminal session, using remote desktop connection.

(ALL STANDARD SHIT)

looks like a windows problem

but is there a workaround

all i want is that winamp plays the file on my old jukebox P333 that sits next to the stereo. :-)

Ok fixed it..

1. ctrl+P
2. Go to output
3. Doubleclick on direct sound output
4. Go to device and check that it is using your soundcard.

Fixed it for me.

In response to the first poster. I'm having the same problems with my 2000 Adv. Server computer (a P3 500). I'm starting to think it's just to old to find the proper support for it anymore.

I am having this issue as well. Rebooting fixes it but I am not sure why that is. I never had this problem before upgrading.

I would like to resolve though as rebooting isn't always convenient...

1. Winamp > Ctrl+P (for preferences)
2. Plug-ins > Output
3. double click 'DirectSound output'
4. Driver tab
5. make sure the device in the drop-down list correctly reflects your soundcard

Basically the same thing that Jayaballard mentioned in this old thread.

Further DirectSound config tweaks

-and/or-

1. Control Panel
2. Sounds & Audio Devices icon (or MultiMedia Icon)
3. Audio tab
4. in 'Sound playback' make sure the 'Default device:' drop-down box correctly reflects your soundcard

No dice? Try updating the soundcard drivers. If you have a soundcard go the manufacturer's website for updates. If you have an on board sound chip, go to the website of your computer provider or the manufacturer of the mother board. Also make sure DirectX is up to date for your system.

Close down Winamp, Windows and reboot the computer after making any of the above changes.
