I have two rating values, "keep" and "delete". Anything with a "delete" rating gets deleted. Anything with a "keep" rating gets to stay.
I find music to be too subjective for a stepped, empirical rating system. Also, my taste changes slightly over time, so rather than keep up with continually changing/updating numbered ratings, I don't use them.
If there's an album I don't listen to for a year, it gets its rating changed from "keep' to "delete".
