No 5.1 surround support? What gives?
Yes I searched the forums. Yes I tried a few of the plug-ins. The excuse that "well mp3s are in stereo, that's why" is bs. Every other app plays beautifully in 5.1. Why doesn't winamp?
The two plugins I tried give me a crackly, flat sound. Can someone point me to a real solution? What plugins and settings work for you? I have been using winamp since it started kicking the llama's ass, and now I am thinking I might have to move on. |

Yup I have tried everything in that thread and it still sounds like crap. I don't understand why this isn't native yet.
Anyone using 5.1 and it doesn't crackle? I'd be curious to know what your setup is. |

I'm using the default DirectSound Output plugin (configured as per the instructions in the provided link), no 3rd-party crap required, with 7.1 speakers, and it's playing out of all 8 speakers and sounds perfect/beautiful. So you must be doing something wrong, heh.

Okay thanks DJ Egg. I'll troubleshoot and see if I can figure out what is doing it.
Directsound makes it even more distorted and it only comes out of the right front and left rear. The plugins actually give me 5.1, but it is distorted too. Operating System: Windows XP Professional (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 2 (2600.xpsp_sp2_gdr.050301-1519) System Manufacturer: AOPEN_ System Model: AWRDACPI BIOS: Phoenix - AwardBIOS v6.00PG Processor: AMD Athlon(tm) XP 2600+, MMX, 3DNow, ~1.9GHz Memory: 1024MB RAM Page File: 334MB used, 2127MB available Windows Dir: C:\WINDOWS DirectX Version: DirectX 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904) Clean 5.2 install. No extra crap running. |

Okay well a uninstall --> delete folder --> reinstall seems to have fixed it. Duh.
Now I have to go apologize to the Winamp gods for blaspheming. I shall repent and forever pledge my allegiance to the almighty llama whoopers. keep on keepin on. |
