Can't play sounds under 1 second

Any idea why I can`t play sounds under 1 second? I need to be able to because I am looking for a cartoony flower popping out of the ground noise, and many files online are under 1 second. When I click play nothing happens. The bar goes from left to right in 2 frames and thats it.

Try disabling cross-fade

1. Winamp > Ctrl+P
2. Plug-ins > Output
3. double click 'DirectSound Output'
3. Fading tab
4. click on the various 'on' fade options and uncheck Enabled

Note: The fade controls in the Modern skins controls the 'on end of song' option.

thanks for the help. While itt didn`t work, i found switching to the other output allows it to play. Thanks a bunch.
