Creating a randomized playlist

This propably has been addressed a million times, but I had trouble finding a solution to simply create a randomized playlist locally on my shoutcast server. This server is just shoutcast, no X, no anything else... so to do this I was FTP'ing playlist around to get it into winmap or the like to randomize..

These two short scripts take care of my problem, i'm posting links in case anyone else finds them helpful:

Both scripts are at www.include-im.com/files/shoutcast

"sr" gets rid of spaces in song/directory names. The original script is at http://www.spinningstone.com/spacereplace.php.

"crdnpl" creates a random music.lst from your content

of course, your mileage may vary and use at your own risk...

well you dont need to do any scripting if you run sc_tran you just change the configuration to indicate to use random playlist

sc_serv and sc_trans running on the same server.

if you are using winamp as your source you too can just tell winamp to ramdomize it and it will push it to the shoutcast server.

What are you using to transcode the mp3s sitting on the server ?

true..... but, at least in our experience, telling sc_tran to randomize didn't seem very random... we have 2600+ songs on the stream and we were hearing alot of repeats... that's why we abandoned the internal randomize and tried an external randomized playlist... which did seem to work better at least for us...

and I just wanted to do it there... we've used winamp to randomize the list and it was just an extra step... when I was on the server moving content around I just wanted to quickly get the music.lst together when i was done...

ya cool. for some reason my sc_trans loves to play the billy idol tracks more than any of the other tracks.

I can see you point in making a more random list for sc_trans too.

Good info and decent script too.
