Winamp freezes when switiching from a webstream to a local file

Hello,

currently my winamp freezes for about 3-5 minutes when i try to switch from a webradio stream (standard 128kbit mp3 stream) to a local mp3 on one of my hard drives. It also occurs with the demo.mp3 that comes with winamp.
When switching from the stream to the local file (henceforth referred to as mp3) it keeps playing the stream for 1-2 seconds and then freezes completely, it stops producing sound, ui locks up completely and cannot be ended by killing the winamp process with the taskmaster. Some system services seem to be affected as well, in particular the add/remove service hanging as long as winamp.
After a couple of minutes it starts playing the mp3 normally and switching to another local file is instantaneous.
Edit: The problem also occurse when stoppinng listening to the stream.
Switching from a local file to a stream also presents no problem whatsoever and the stream plays flawlessly.

I am running Winamp 5.21 on an audigy 2. I have a 2mbit cable connection and use the netpeeker firewall and it has been set up to allow any winamp traffic.

I have also run a systemwide Virus- and Spyware scan which produced no result whatsoever.

Winamp has been reinstalled clean several times (i've made sure to clear the registry as well).
This problem seems to have appeared out of the blue while the machine was running.

I hope someone can help me with this really annoying problem.

Hi,

Do you have any 3rd-party plugins installed?
Are you using a DSP/Effect plugin?

Is it happening for all streams? Could you provide a link?

No i am not using any 3rd party plugins whatsoever since the clean installs.
As far as i can tell any stream seems to be affected. At least i haven't been able to find one which is unaffected. It also happens when switching from one stream to another. The one were it originally happened can be found at: http://213.186.43.150:8100.
otherwise winamp runs completely fine but this freezing is getting rather anoying since the freezes can be up to 15minutes .
It seems almost as if winamp + system is waiting for something and sits there until it gets it. It doesn't go mad eating memory or cpu power either, it just goes completely dormant. Winamp is however the only thing i've been able to reproduce this effect with. None of my other programs are affected or cause any other unusual effects.

I really don't know what's going on there...

Virus scanners can sometimes cause a lag when Winamp is doing something, but mostly because Winamp writes a setting file which is then scanned by the virus scanner. As far as I know, Winamp doesn't write anything when stopping a stream.
Does your anti-virus program have an exclusion list in which you could Winamp? (or the Winamp folder)

You could try disabling ctfmon.exe, some people report lags because of that process.
http://www.neuber.com/taskmanager/pr...tfmon.exe.html
However, note that it is not entirely clear to which ctfmon.exe those people are referring. Normally it is a process belonging to MS Office, in some cases it appears to be malware.

Info about the legit ctfmon.exe can be found here:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=282599
In most cases the file will be legit, but probably useless anyway. You could try disabling it.

Do you get different behaviour when you switch output to waveOut?
Prefs (Ctrl+P) > Plug-ins > Output > waveOut output

Anyone else ideas?
