Playing an asx radio stream

I would like to play an asx stream through winamp. I have downloaded some plugins that should enable it to work. Some windows media files play in Winamp but not this one:

http://www.rmfclassic.pl/rmfclassic....calwebcast.com

It does not even open in Win Media player. In order to have it play in Winamp I have changed the file associations in both Firefox and my computer so that asx is linked to winamp. It does play but not through any obvious player program. In order to adjust the volume I have to use the winxp sound control. What should I do to make it play through winamp?

I have noticed in the file associations in winamp that some file types are in upper case and some lower. Does this mean anything?

Works fine here with no extra plugins installed. Make sure you are running the full version of Winam 5.22.

I have just installed 5.22. Thank you for advising me of it.

I have found it is not making any difference to the playing of the ASX file. It is still not being opened by winamp.

Looking at the file types in winamp, asx is showing but in lower case.

Did you uninstall the plug-ins, you mentioned? They may be causing conflicts with 5.22's support for asx.

For the File Types option in Winamp, the case does not matter. Is it asx highlighted/selected? If not select/highlight it and make sure 'Restore file associations at Winamp start-up' is selected. Then close and restart Winamp.

Have you tried copy and pasting the address you provided in Winamp's open URL box. Or, try copying and pasting the following addresses (one or both) in Winamp's open URL box.

The url pasted into Winamp does not play.

All the file associations in Winamp are white on blue so are selected, including asx.

The input plugin are a number of Nullsoft plugins such as Nullsoft windows media decoder 3.2 and also tara audio video plugin.

The Nullsoft Windows Media Decoder 3.2 is a default plug-in that comes with Winamp. As the name suggests, it allows the playback of Windows media formats. So, keep that plug-in.

The Tara plug-in is mainly for RealMedia formats. If you do not want to play back RealMedia formats via Winamp, then you can uninstall it. Otherwise, try the following...
1. Winamp > Ctrl+P
2. Plug-ins > Input
3. double click 'Tara Audio Plug-in for Winamp'
4. uncheck (or checkmark) 'Process audio through Winamp'
5. close out of Prefs > close & restart Winamp

I followed you advice and unchecked the tara plug in. I then pasted the url into winamp and it played. I have since enabled the tara plugin and can still play the stream.

I still can not get winamp to open automatically when I click on the link in Firefox. Instead of going to WA a new tab opens and the music plays. Close the tab and the music stops. I have checked the file association in firefox, and asx is definately linked to winamp.exe

Is an example of a url that automatically opens winamp. I seem to be having trouble with just asx files.

Do you mean, FireFox > Tools > Options... > Downloads tab > Download Actions, 'View & Edit Actions' button ? Sometimes more than one entry for the same extension can be listed. Did you check for other ASX entries.

Otherwise, please post system specs.
