Man, guys, I am seriously wondering why the heck you all have desktops looking that clear . I mean, no overloaded desktop with icons and stuff ... Are you all fans of the Start Menu and the Quicklaunch Bar, or what . Heh, I am just pullin' your leg. But still ... You're all so neat .

Hmmm, maybe my desktop looks that messy since the last time I reinstalled Windows is like two years ago (on my old computer running Win95b). On my new computer, which runs Windows 2000 SP-1, crashes more often than my old machine, which is actually a mystery to me .

Well, keep on posting, guys!

Peace.

@ zxypher: Well, your link leads to this small Fortunecity banner, and that's all ... .

@ ef280z: Thanks for the info, I was just curious .

@ Berserker

Are you referring to the bigger taskbar which some guys here do have? Well, even under Windows 95, you can make the taskbar larger just like you resize an usual shell window, which gives you more space . I wouldn't use it in conjunction with a resolution below 1024x768, personally .

And dammit, your sig is f*cking long ... .. . And it seems to be plain advertisement. That's what I would call sucky.

I like the added space of the double-sized task bar, but I also have it set to autohide. I run at 800x600 screen rez, too. I can't stand a cluttered desktop or Start menu, so I've gotten rid of all the crap that I don't need... My Sart menu is pretty clean, too. I have a 'My Computer' shortcut right next to my tray (comes in handy quite often).

Budgie-
Thanks for the link. I'm at school right now, but I'll be checkin' that out when I get home.

If I keep my desktop clean, it looks nice.
If I keep my Start menu clean, it looks nice.
If I hide the apps related to my job, I procrastinate.

Budgie - Not a problem. Seems that no one ever recognizes him, but it's a great song.

Anahka: Holy poop on a stick, that's a lot of desktop icons!

Desktop clutter is bad. Clean desktops are good. I don't use a whole lot of things, so I keep my essential stuff in my quicklaunch bar. I wish there was a way for Windows 98 to have that two-column overflow Start menu so you can gloat about all the nifty stuff you have than have to scroll down. It's not as fun.

Had a look at PaneKiller by MaDDoG Productions? Does just anbout anything you want with your start menu, including transparancy, transitions (Including Proper Alpha-fade), sticky menus an' all that.

It's a very cool program...

No need for a picture of mine. It's the default Windows 2000 blue colour.
The only alterations are the Windows Explorer and Winamp icons added to the desktop and the Windows Explorer icon added to the quick start bar.

Small start menu as well. Keep it simple, only install what I need.

@ Anakha: Heh, referring to the amount of icons, I am coming right after ya .

@ Sarge: You're welcome. Have phun, dude .

Oh, if anyone wants to get rid of the ugly background color around the text under your desktop icons, go THAT SITE and download this certain programm called "Transtext". It is a pretty well-written tiny proggie which replaces the background color of the icon text in any color you want, or, which I totally prefer, transparency . I am using it, too. It rocks . And no, I am not working @ Chaossoft ...

Well, guys, your desktops all look very neat.

Peace.

Ah, off topic, but I have to know. What servers runs on port 8080? I think it's a SOCKS 4 proxy server, but i'm not sure.

Port 8000-8888 is usually HTTP-Proxy. SOCKS4/5 is usually 1080, but I'm using 8080 as our Router at work blocks inbound access below port 1024.

Just so you know.

O.k, I have been watching this thread and looking at the desktops. I really like the look of a clean desktop. But I also like my icons and folders alot. So in the last couple of days, I tried different wallpapers, cleared a bunch of crap of my desktop, But it still looked cluttered. So heres what I did. I made my own background with compartments to help organize my desktop and give it a cleaner look, But still have my icons and folders.. Tell me what you think, Here it is now..

Actually I was thinking of putting some kind of pic in the middle box where my name is,, What do you think? Do it or no??

Well a-arse, I tried it both ways with a compass thingy like you said and a pic, Didn't like either. Started making it look busy again. So I guess i'll just leave it the way it is. Suits me alright.. Thanks for the suggestion though...

Huge web compression which cut it to like 1/6 the original size, aren't I nice?

I was bored and went back to my original Gravity Well (screen0) background and changed 2 of the quicklaunch icons.
They only last about 4 days before the entire set is changed.
