WinAmp crash when changing songs
WinAmp has started crashing when it changes from one song to another. This happens both when Winamp automatically picks up the next track in a playlist, if the user presses the "Next" button or "B" key to advance to the next, or if a new track is selected from the playlist using the mouse.
This has only started happening in the last 5 days, I have tried updating to Winamp 5.24 (was running 5.21) but this has not resolved the issue. The error message info is as follows: AppName: winamp.exe AppVer: 5.2.4.703 ModName: ntdll.dll ModVer: 5.1.2600.2180 Offset: 000106c3 |

Are any of these 3rd-party plugins from your list active?
out_mp3splice.dll out_stacker.dll dsp_compwide.dll dsp_ss131b.dll dsp_stacker.dll Try a clean install of 5.24 If the problem persists, we will need more information (eg. HijackThis log & my_plugins_list.txt) |

Have done a full uninstall and reinstall of WinAmp 5.24. When asked I opted not to copy any existing settings.
Moving from one track to another works now, except it seems to take about 10 seconds and WinAmp seems to be totally locked up during this period. BTW: I am running Windows XP Pro SP2 on a Dell Latitude D600 laptop with 1.7Ghz proc and 1Gb of RAM. I did have some of those plugins you listed installed, however none of them were active. That was one of the first things I tried. |

Well, you had ALL of those plugins installed, because they were all referenced in the crash log.
Try these DirectSound Output tweaks. If the "enable hardware acceleration" option causes problems, then either uncheck it, or try updating your sound drivers (if any are available). Also try reducing 'buffer ahead on track change' value (out_ds > config > buffering tab) to '0', or again, try updating sound drivers (I'd offer more help, but can't without knowing what the sound card is, eg. if it's a proper pci sound card, or if it's an onboard chip). If the problem persists, we'll also need to see a dxdiag log (as well as the HJT and my_plugins_list.txt logs). |

Thanks for all your help. This has now resolved my issues.
I think the 10 second delay had something to do with sending anonymous stats which is ticked by default. When I unticked this option the delay disappeared. I have been using WinAmp since 1997 and this has been my first issue I have ever had with it. Top Job! |

Hmm, strange.
I guess you're referring to "allow winamp to report anonymous usage statistics" in Prefs > General Preferences, yes? I always uncheck that in the installer options (I think it's on Screen 8, Registration Info) The only way I can think that it might cause problems is if winamp is blocked at the firewall level, or some security app is blocking the port/connection. Out of curiosity, I just tried enabling that option, but couldn't reproduce the problem. Anyway, the main thing is that your problem is now solved :-) |
